C$U - Our Story
Corporate Sponsored Uprising is a 4 piece post-punk rock band from Huntsville, AL who consider themselves politically and morally motivated. The original project was formed in October of 2011 with guitarist Max Oliver looking for musicians to play with after having been out of the music scene for about 10 years. After finding a couple of young promising musicians to play with, he began writing songs. In December of 2011, Max met vocalist Jon Anderson, and there was an instant connection. Both musicians were on the exact same page as to what sound they wanted to achieve as a band and what message they wanted to spread with that sound. Both shared similar political and moral views and felt strongly about incorporating those values into the music and lyrics. In January, Jon and Max decided that the young bassist and drummer that they had been jamming with, although were very talented and pleasant people, did not have the experience necessary to stay on par with the challenge that was ahead. In February of 2012, Max recruited bassist Jerry Cox and Drummer Jay Tarin, and again, the connection was undeniable. Everyone in the newly formed band seemed to share one mind. They immediately began writing music and practicing anywhere from 10 to 20 hours a week. Within a couple weeks, after putting several ideas in the pot, they unanimously settled on a band name: Corporate Sponsored Uprising. The band found it effortless to achieve a sound that they could call their own. It's easier to hear than to describe, but if you can picture the foundation of old school punk, fused with metal riffs and guitar/bass melodies, then topped off with aggressive lead vocals and emotional backup vocal harmonies, that would be C$U's "sound". One thing the band prides themselves on is that each of them are a perfectionist when it comes to the music they create, and it's kind of a running joke with the 4 of them. There has been many a night where the band played one part of one chorus or verse for hours just to satisfy everyone individually. Their debut show was on March 10th, 2012, at The Coppertop in Huntsville, AL...and they played with local favorites Random Conflict, and The Casket Kids. Apparently, they impressed enough people with their first few shows to keep their schedule full with gigs for the next several months. Now that you are caught up to speed, the latest news to report is that the band will be going into a professional recording studio soon to record their first EP.
